I spend a lot of my time on the internet scouting out new cache container ideas. I stumbled across a cache listing that had hundreds of DNFs posted and the cache owner seemed to delight in it. I was a little disturbed by that. I’m all about a challenging cache but all caches should be find-able with a reasonable amount of hunting. If nothing else, decent hints should be posted if the container itself is particularly well disguised. Some of our cache containers are well on the “evil” side so we’d like to encourage our customers to place them with care & take time to post a good description. We like to use hints that make you think–instead of saying where the cache is, use a phrase that is a bit of a puzzle such as “some people describe Australia like this” for “down under”. Instead of saying that the cache is magnetic, use “attractive”. You get the picture. When we go caching we love to see cache listings that tell us what we’re looking for, “you’re searching for a well disguised film canister”, or say how far in the cache is, “you will need to make a 1/2 mile walk into the park to get to the cache”, etc. Make sure you mark the correct descriptions in your cache listing for container size & difficulty so the cache hunter can decide if they want to go after your cache or pass it up in favor of an easier find. Let’s keep geocaching enjoyable for all!
